Methiopropamine (MPA) – a synthetic drug which is similar in structure to amphetamine and formerly often marketed as a ‘legal alternative’ to cocaine – is to be placed as a Class B drug following guidance from the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD).
The ACMD’s advice concerned an apparent increase in the harms associated with the use of MPA, particularly related to its potential intravenous injection.
The ACMD has recommended that MPA, currently subject to a Temporary Class Drug Order (TCDO) until the 27th of November, is placed in Class B of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 (as amended) and Schedule 1 of the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001 (as amended), as no legitimate medicinal use of the substance has been found.
Mild euphoria and increased levels of awareness are said to be some of the effects that Methiopropamine can have, making it an ideal substitute for researchers studying the receptor actions brought about by methamphetamine (Crystal Meth).
Available from BuyAnyChem in a powder or rock form, Methiopropamine is intended for research purposes only, and anything other than in vitro application is strictly prohibited.
This chemical is formally referred to as N-methyl-1-(thiophen-2-yl)propan-2-amine and has a molecular formula of C8H13NS but is more commanly known as MPA.
It is rather new, so there is little to no published information about its effects, despite the fact that its synthesis dates back to 1942.
Synthesizers created it by substituting thiophene for the phenyl group.
Methiopropamine can function as a selective norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor that is roughly 1.85 times more selective for norepinephrine than dopamine. It is approximately 1/3 as potent as dextroamphetamine as a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor and one fifth as much as a dopamine reuptake inhibitor. It displays negligible activity as a serotonin reuptake inhibitor.
This product is sold only for research uses in laboratory settings. Those who work with it are advised to wear the appropriate safety gear and follow standard safety protocols while handling it.
